On June 15th, 2014, Father’s Day, the unthinkable happened - that moment in your life that you can never imagine, except in your worst nightmares. Alexia Ardeleanu, a beautiful young lady with unlimited potential was suddenly and tragically taken from us by a drunk driver. But her legacy lives on. We spent a lot of time crying and still want to cry every time we think about it. But we have chosen instead to honor her memory. We want to share the lessons she taught us and we feel she would have taught others, if she had been given the time. She had a 4.0 GPA in a double major of Accounting and Finance, was preparing for a double Masters of Law with an MBA, worked as a Resident Assistant in the Honors Hall, had an internship with a Fortune 500 company, and was President of the Professional Leadership Program at the University of North Texas. Through Alexia’s personal emails and stories from people whose lives she touched, you will see the challenges, obstacles, and opportunities leaders face in real life. Each leadership lesson includes a real life example, a summary of what can be learned, and an opportunity for you to integrate it into your own life. Profits benefit the Alexia Ardeleanu Memorial Fund. Help us preserve Alexia’s memory so her example can shine through for the rest of the world. You can donate at https//one.unt.edu/alexia.

Alexia was a young, beautiful and intelligent college student who was tragically killed by a drunk driver in 2014. Instead of dissolving in grief, her friends and family have helped put together this book with the proceeds going towards the Alexia Andeleanu Memorial Fund. It is for this reason I chose to read this book. I thought it would be hard to read due to the death of such a young lady and also because of the topic of leadership. I thought, how interesting could that possibly be to me? Much to my delight it was completely the opposite of what I thought it would be. The book is made up of small chapters that each center around different leadership skills and start with how Alexia exhibited these skills. This is done with Alexia’s own emails and journal entries. Interspersed throughout are pictures of Alexia which help to make this “how to” book more personal. At the end are some thoughts and feelings about Alexia from her friends and family. The book is very touching but also written in a way that is interesting and informative. The leadership qualities can be used in everyday life whether in a work environment or your personal life. Alexia sounds like she was an amazing and successful young lady and this book is well worth reading. The cover image is a picture of Alexia which gives a personal touch to the book. The formatting, pictures included, worked well on my ereader. This was a truly enjoyable read.

Alexia's Legacy is a book which chronicles the life of a driven and extraordinary young woman, Alexia Ardeleanu, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver on June 21, 2014. Alexia was a beloved daughter and friend, but she was also a gifted and admired student. She somehow managed to hold down a 4.0 GPA as a double major in Accounting and Finance. She was planning to go on and study for a double graduate degree in Law while also earning an MBA. As if her studies didn't keep her busy enough, Alexia was also very active as a Resident Assistant at the University of North Texas and was President of the Professional Leadership Program at her college. As her relatives and campus family struggled to come to terms with her death, everyone was stunned that such a promising young woman was no longer around. The book Alexia's Legacy uses emails, interviews and personal recollections from those who knew Alexia to share the lessons she used on a daily basis to both be successful and give to others.

While Alexia and her memory are central to this book, each chapter contains a leadership lesson that is illustrated by an email or reminiscence by someone who was close to her and learned by her example. The examples are followed by a summary and suggestion for activities that the reader can do to help improve his or her own leadership skills. The chapters are grouped into areas such as Create Leadership Habits and Take Care of Yourself.

Some of the lessons demonstrated include Practice Gratitude (Alexia often emailed thank you messages to people she worked with and also had a gratitude journal) and Take Time to Appreciate When Things Go Right (which may even just be the great weather outside your window!). What was really the most amazing thing in the book to me was the examples of Alexia's written goals, action plans to achieve the goals, and due dates that she set for herself. She did this for both personal (Maintain 4.0 GPA, Create a Working Budget) and professional (decisions about future degree options and job prospects) goals. I have to wonder how many college students actually take the time to plan out their personal and professional lives to such an extent and even have due dates attached to hold themselves accountable! Not only did Alexia to this, she frequently reviewed her goals to see if she was on track to complete them. If not, she revised her goals and plans. Alexia's example is used to show how to plan meetings to demonstrate your organization and increase your teams confidence in your leadership abilities.

Through Alexia's emails we get to know the young woman a bit more. She was focused, dedicated and extremely organized. It was a bit odd that most of her emails to her mentor (Ray White, the co-author of the book) seemed to go on at length about how much time she was spending journaling, exercising, and sleeping. I wouldn't think a mentor would need that much detail, but I suppose this transparency and openness is just another facet of Alexia's personality. Although exercising and getting enough sleep are also lessons in the book, the amount of time she devoted to chronicling these aspects of her life seemed a bit odd to the casual reader!

The book ends with a section titled "Memories to Honor Alexia" where people who knew her reflect on times they spent with her. While we already knew a great deal about her from the previous chapters, this section gives more personal memories. I felt that this chapter was a bit too long (18 pages on my ), and I'm not sure the average reader who didn't know her would be interested in reading all of the memories, touching though they are.

All in all, this book is a very heartfelt and moving memorial to a young lady whose life ended much too soon. The lessons that she was able to impart through her example help to show other young people how to organize their time and efforts to get the maximum return. Its sad to think of what she could have accomplished if shed had the chance, but her legacy will live on by those who will be inspired by her achievements.

Disclaimer I received a copy of this book from the BookPlex program in exchange for this review
I've know this young lady since the day she was born, a wonderful beautiful woman and a tragic ending to her life on this earth. She had so much to offer and we were robbed of her gifts. Thus the Legacy of Alexis keeps her alive in the hearts and minds of all who loved her and all who will get to know her and hear her voice through reading the book.
I've not read the entire book but from what I read, it is a very good book in teaching not only young adults about leadership but adults also...I also like the fact that it references servant leadership. What a spectacular young lady who left this earth much too soon!!!!
This book is an amazing tribute to an extraordinary young lady taken too soon from this earth. Through emails, conversations and principles captured during her year leading a student organization, the Professional Leadership Program at the University of North Texas. she is able to leave behind a legacy of eternal truths. Lessons for Leadership and Life offers real applications for students and professionals alike to grow in whatever phase of life they are in, be a leader among their peers, and find the balance life requires of us to be successful. Well written, heart-felt, and easy to digest, this book is practical for any wanting to better their leadership skills.
Alexia's Legacy Lessons for Leadership and Life uses examples from Alexia's life to illustrate the ways a good leader operates. Alexia was a young woman who was tragically killed in a car accident. Her life, full of brightness, achievement, and hard work, still changes the people who knew her, and so they have produced this book so that others can learn from her example. The book focused on "servant" leadership, which means getting other people to their goals and caring about them as individuals rather than cogs in a machine. Emails, quotes, pictures, etc are scattered throughout to further illustrate the messages. There were some formatting issues that I assume were caused by the pictures pushing text out of alignment. There were also some typos that could be squashed out with a round of editing. The writing style is conversational and straightforward.

Overall I thought this was informative. A very nice, heartfelt tribute and guide on becoming a good leader. Sometimes I found myself smiling at the personal anecdotes and tales, I think I would have liked to get to know Alexia.
