I had never seen a Meat Cake comic before reading this collection but I was hooked on the first page. Dame Darcy's world is a bazaar but lovable one full of quirky and fascinating recurring characters as well as one-off dark tales of Victorian macabre. The art is amazing, somehow managing to be both highly finessed and folk-arty in its flexibility of scale. Collecting the individual issues in this book (all out of print) will be expensive and nearly impossible but here you can experience a decade of ingenius creativity in one large volume.
